4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing short stoies! 10 Dec 2012
By Emma
Format:Kindle Edition
Im not really a fan of short stories, however reading this has certainly changed my mind! I loved how all the stories were similar. My favourite one was Paradise Lost-Not. The idea behind it was amazing, the writing gave away so much of the story but allowed you to still make your own decisions and allowed you to change your thinking behind certain parts.

As a younger reader I found that this book relates well to young readers, a lot better then some of the other books I have read which are also based for young readers. I have enjoyed them all so much that im actually re reading the book. Im very hard to please when it comes to writing and books so for me to be re reading a book is something lol! I would recommend this book to everyone.

These short stories are well-written and engaging, spanning varying social and cultural issues. The first concerns a girl escaping from potential trafficking. The second adopts the perspective of a teenager training for the Paralympics. In both, the author uses voice credibly; the characters felt relate-able and genuine. The latter is particularly impressive for its shifting focus and the way it presents a rounded view of the character and her concerns. The other two stories were less to my taste, but both used imagery strongly and would interest different readers.

The marathon of a short story called Still First.

Who says writing short stories gets you nowhere? In October last year the story, Still First appeared for 6 months on the Red Telephone YA publisher's blogsite, Manchester. Then, Help for Writers, Leicester put it in ebook at Kindle and iTunes at 'The Heavenly Road Trip'. Next, I was at the Byron Festival,Hucknall Leisure Centre, Nottingham having a fun day reading a younger version of 'Still First.' Also, Loughborough University heard my story, along with 110 senior school students and some Head Teachers. Recently, the story went to London and the Bermondsey Project Gallery with the RNIB charity. I did some performance art, where my story was experienced in a multi-sensory manner, then from the 18th August for a week was heard as a recording. There was much generosity by some outstanding British companies who have supplied tactile aids, thanks Speedo and Candles.co.uk. They joined me, entering into the spirit of the Olympics.
